Something’s Coming: Fall ’12

By , July 31, 2012 8:55 pm

We have a contact on the inside who informs us that there is (supposedly) going to be a huge release for Enlighters – this fall! Details are still sparse, and no official date has been mentioned, other than hints at a fall of 2012 release. This release will allow fountain administrative control on the fly – from turning on the jets, to maintenance logs. Our contact managed to sneak out a few photos without the “big wigs” finding out, along with the official release name:

Máquina Webfront

More details will hopefully be forthcoming.

Making T-Shirts

By , March 31, 2011 4:17 pm

We’ve finally done it. There are now official Enlight t-shirts available. Danielle created the silk screen templates and the designs that were used on the shirts, so Enlight would like to extend a note a thanks to her for that.

On the front of the shirts, the new Enlight logo is proudly displayed.

On the backs, they have a stylized Maquina fountain courtesy of Danielle.

Finally, on the right arm, there is a copy of the QR code for our website. Feel free to plaster this around to spread the word about Enlight!

Check out our event gallery here! It’s even in HTML for all you iPad users!

Hello world, Again!

Shiny! New! ACTUAL SIZE!

That’s right, folks! We’ve done it again and upgraded to our new server. To help answer your questions we’ve created a new feature: Q&A!

Q: What are the specs of the new server?
A: We are currently running an Intel QuadCore Xeon at 2.93GHz, 8GB of memory, 2 500GB HDDs in a hardware raid, a Radeon HD 5670, and a whole bunch of fans. Its operating system of choice is Windows Server 2008 R2.

Q: Is it running this web page?
A: Yes, WordPress is an excellent open source blog platform. It can run on almost any operating system (Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux) and web server (IIS, Apache). Every resource you see rendered here is from our new server.

Q: Does it run the fountain too?
A: No, not yet. Moving the web sites over was hard enough. There are still a few things that need to be worked out before we can completely upgrade.

Q: So all it does is run the web pages, then?
A: Yep.

Q: That’s boring.
A: That’s not a question.

Q: Sorry. What can I do to help?
A: Well, first you can make me a sandwich and. Oh wait, you meant with the server, right?

Q: Right. Hey, wait, can you ask questions?
A: Yes I can, and yes you can get involved. Enlight is always looking for new spunky people to help out. If you would be interested in helping out, feel free to drop in to our meetings on Tuesday nights by 1099 ECB around 6p.

Q: One last question. Is this really “Actual Size”?
A: Yes, yes it is.

Site Update

By , October 16, 2009 7:03 pm

We have just updated from site to the latest and greatest version of WordPress (version 2.8.4)! There should be no major front end changes, but if you notice any problems please report them to the enlight-members@cae.wisc.edu.

“Our ToDo List” Widget for WordPress

By , September 11, 2008 3:44 am

Announcing: a new WordPress plugin to integrate a ToDo list into WordPress as a widget.

The “Our ToDo List” Widget for WordPress extends the WordPress Our ToDo List Plugin from WordPress By Examples by incorporating your list of ToDo items into the sidebar.  You can see it in use on this site at the right hand side, where we will be using it to track items on Enlight’s To Do list.

Features

  • Integrates with the “Our Todo List” plugin via their public APIs to display the exact same list of tasks.
  • When a logged-in user is browsing the page, a link to “Edit List” is added at the bottom of the ToDo List, to allow for quick and easy editing.
  • Completed items are marked by a CSS class to allow themes to display them differently

Customization

  • You can customize the title displayed over the list by clicking “Edit” from your Widgets page.
  • You can theme the list items by using the otd_todo and otd_completed CSS classes, which are automatically added to each item by the Our ToDo List Plugin API.  For example, this site uses:
    .otd_completed { text-decoration: line-through; color: #888888; }

Download & Installation

  1. You must have the prerequisite “Our ToDo List” plugin installed and working: Our Todo List
  2. Download the latest release here: Our ToDo List Widget Plugin (currently version 1.0)
  3. Unpack the ZIP file to your wp-content/plugins directory.
  4. Activate the “Our ToDo List Widget” plugin from your Plugins admin page.
  5. Add the widget to your sidebar from the Design->Widgets page.
  6. Set a title for the widget if you don’t like the default.

Electrical Engineer Game

I came across this awesome game on Hack-a-Day, it’s basically debug the circuit and save the world :)

Ruckingenur II

While there are only 4 levels, and you don’t necessarily need an official nerd card to play, it was still a very fun alternative to traditional puzzle games!   Let us know if you decide to download/play it.
